On Saturday, December 14, at 6 pm, at the “Maria Cristina Garattoni” Council Chamber in the Municipal Residence in Santarcangelo di Romagna, the award ceremony for the 2024 Peace Prize promoted by EducAid will take place.
Roberto Scaini, a doctor from Rimini, involved in emergency interventions as a volunteer for Doctors Without Borders, will receive the Prize in the presence of Filippo Sacchetti, Mayor of Santarcangelo di Romagna. His commitment to victims in countries affected by war, humanitarian crises or epidemics has brought him all over the world from 2007 to today: from Yemen to Bolivia, from Iraq to Brazil, from Syria to Nepal, from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Ukraine, and also Liberia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sierra Leone up to the most recent experience in 2024, when he operated for two months in the Gaza Strip, in Palestine.
“We thought about this acknowledgement because our organization, founded after having brought solidarity and help to Bosnia and Herzegovina devastated by war in the late 90s, has the commitment to work for peace as one of its founding values. To work for peace means building relationships and creating bridges between people, placing the physical and psychological protection of victims at the forefront. And this is what the doctor Roberto Scaini has been doing for over 15 years, with the authoritativeness of his skills and his extraordinary empathy”, explained Ivo Giuseppe Pazzagli, the President of the NGO EducAid based in Rimini, as the reasoning for the choice.
The journalist Laura Silvia Battaglia, war zone correspondent, one of the leading experts on the Middle East, will participate in the meeting.
The Peace Prize, promoted by EducAid with the contribution of Riviera Banca, is part of the project “Voices for Gaza. Meetings, readings, exhibitions, music to promote peace and human rights” organized in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region in the 2024 Peace call and promoted in partnership with the Province of Rimini; Municipality of Rimini; Municipality of Riccione; Municipality of Santarcangelo di Romagna; Anthea; Italo-Swiss Educational Center – C.E.I.S.; Social cooperative Il Millepiedi; CGIL Rimini and Gruppo Icaro.
