Educaid in Senegal

In the last few decades, the Senegalese Government addressed less and less financial resources to the educational system. The result is the exclusion from it of the majority of young people. In the Dakar Region, specifically in the Guédiawaye Department, the population growth reached an unprecedented number: 600.000 inhabitants. That is a consequence of the rural exodus and the natural growth of the population. The urbanization in the region occurred in an illegal and precarious way. It has been characterized by: the predominance of poor and vulnerable people (such as youths, which are the 65% of the population); high rates of unemployment and delinquency; shortage of healthcare and educational infrastructures; high rates of illiteracy and school drop-out (about 53%); precarious housing (houses built with poor quality materials on dangerous areas liable to flash floods).
